Team News: Northgate vs Macclesfield Parish
Saturday 19th January 10.30am – SMCCFL Division 3
Three goals in four frantic minutes last week at the end of a crazy game in Manchester gave Northgate more than just a point; it gave them belief, relief, hope, confidence, and a sense that nothing is beyond them when they play with the right kind of intensity. It is widely felt that if they can avoid the periods in games during which the opposition can take advantage of collective ‘sleepiness’, this Northgate team can go on to great things. The consistency of performances in this manner though is hard to come by.
Today’s opponents make the long trip across Cheshire in the hope of making it 4 in 4 miserable days for their opponents. Northgate have reason to feel slightly aggrieved and frustrated with each of the previous 3 defeats against Macclesfield, conceding 3 goals in each with many of them either soft or controversial. They will be hoping to put things right and follow on from their superb display of intensity at the end of the Westwood game.
Working towards this target is a squad that sees 5 changes to last week’s squad. In addition to Holden’s suspension, there are absences from Coleclough, Elkington, Stringer, Tonks and last minute hero Pete Davies. In their place come Heathcote, Jones, Thomas and Steve Scott after 2 months on the sidelines with a fractured wrist. A debut is also in store for the youngest member of the squad; 20 year old Alex Clayton.
