TEAM NEWS – St Kentigern’s vs Northgate
Saturday 3rd November 10.30am – SMCCFL Division 3
Seven days ago these teams played out the worst and best results of their seasons respectively. Northgate ran out comfortable 5-1 winners over Warrington Ambassadors B at home, whilst St Kentigern’s lost a close battle on their travels to Kay Street United. Now returning to their home soil, the hosts will be keen to get back to the kind of form that saw them score 37 goals in their opening 5 league games, rightfully catapulting them to the top of the leaderboard. Stemming that flow is no easy task, but in keeping it to just 2 goals conceded, Kay Street managed to take their chances at the other end for something of a surprise result.
Today that task falls to none other than “Mighty” Martin Harvey. In the headlines in the last 2 weeks for goals for and against Northgate, he is the man charged with stopping them going in due to the absences of regular goalkeepers Sharrock and Davenport. With many other absences also hitting the squad hard this week, Clark has once again been forced to dig deep into the free transfer market and extend some of the one-game contracts handed out earlier this season. Dillon Garner returns after an impressive debut against Division 2 City Church, whilst Mark Roberts has finally been re-signed after contract talks broke down over the summer amidst disagreements between the club and his agent. Craig Chesworth, scouted from Sunday league play has also been added to the squad for his Northgate debut. At one point looking at potentially having to travel with just 10 bodies for what could be the biggest league challenge of the season, Clark and the whole squad will now be buoyed by the knowledge that they have a substitute with them.
